HORIZON EUROPE - Shaping Fair and Viable Intergenerational Policies for the Future (FAIRGENs)

FAIRGEN addresses the issue of intergenerational fairness in the context of demographic changes and socio-economic transformations in Europe. The project conceptualises intergenerational fairness as the equitable distribution of financial, temporal, and care resources across generations to ensure the sustainability and resilience of welfare systems. FAIRGENs takes a life-course and cross-generational approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. FAIRGENs utilises two European SSH research infrastructures: SHARE and GGP, as well as the National Transfer Accounts Network, which focuses on the generational economy, to measure public and private transfers, care provision, and generational equity. The project also develops a multidimensional Intergenerational Justice Index and applies microsimulation models to forecast fairness under various policy scenarios. The project introduces European National Inclusion Accounts and Generational Wealth Accounts to evaluate disparities and the transmission of advantages. The WIFO contribution involves further developing the dynamic microsimulation model microWELT and extending it to cover all EU countries.
